Years ago, Glasgow’s prominent Met Tower got a makeover ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. “People Make Glasgow” was a bold statement that embodied everything that made our city great. Fast-forward to now and the Commonwealth Games are on their way back. But what was once a bold declaration to the world is now a run-down, sun-bleached shadow of its former self.

That’s why our Founder / CEO, Andrew Dobbie, has teamed up with creatives and small businesses across the city to make this once-iconic building into something that champions Glasgow’s vibrant creative community and gives us all something to be proud of.

Taking a back seat to the real creatives

Supported by The Social Hub and hosted at SWG3’s Yardworks, ‘Kids Make Glasgow’ brought together 20 brilliant young minds from Castleton Primary School, Sunnyside Primary School, St Patrick’s Primary School, and Pirie Park Primary School to help reimagine the future of Glasgow’s Met Tower.

The day was led by our Andrew Dobbie, BBC Scotland’s Home of the Year host and Hoko Design Founder Danny Campbell, and SWG3’s Laura Frood. Artists Conzo Throb, Agata Pietrusz, Rob Johnson, and Jonny Mowat helped each of the kids develop their ideas, illustrate their characters, spray paint them on walls, and even animate them!

Quickblock also helped bring the children’s ideas to life with a hands-on miniature Met Tower build. All in it was quite a day!

What’s next?

This campaign has always been about the people of Glasgow and yesterday was a reminder that the next generation deserves a voice in shaping what comes next.

Speaking of what’s next, there’s plenty more where that came from. We’re building up to something exciting and we can’t wait to share with you — stay tuned! Until then, you can help us out by signing the petition.
