As we enter 2023, it’s clear this year will be one of the most transformative in recent history. From the introduction of AI to the ongoing effects of the recession, climate crisis, and energy crisis, it’s clear that we are in a state of flux. Amidst all of this change, one thing is certain—the value and need for creativity are greater than ever.
The Impact of AI on Creativity
The genie is out of the bottle with AI. We are seeing this technology begin to influence all creative industries: from art direction and copywriting to fashion, culture, branding, photography, and more.
While some may see AI as a possible threat to traditional creative roles, I prefer to see it as a tool that will help us be faster, more focused, and help us stand out in a sea of sameness. By taking on repetitive tasks and optimizing workflows, AI will help more people become creators and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
The Drive for Authenticity and Expressiveness
There’s a growing demand for brands and people to be more authentic and true to themselves, to have convictions and a point of view that take us from good thoughts to good words and deeds.
There’s also a shift away from minimalism towards the more fluid, expressive, and free lifestyle of younger generations. This, funnily enough, seems to coincide with the revival of the 90s—the last true expressive age not entirely driven by technology.
Embracing Change and Progress
While change is inevitable, progress as ever, is a choice. We should embrace AI as a creative sidekick. We should use it to extend our imaginations, build a better world, disrupt ourselves, and create new industries.
With hope and optimism in the face of uncertainty, we can seize new opportunities to be more creative and create work that’s even more meaningful, compelling, and, dare we say, even more authentic.
Get ready for a wild ride.
