We decided to give Microsoft’s How-Old.net a try…

And wish we hadn’t. You might have noticed a lot of photos with funny looking yellow squares above them and a number housed inside: This is due to Microsoft’s new website, How-Old.net that guesses people’s age by photos they upload. It was created as a way of testing their latest face detection API’s and to fetch some data, but turned out to be the electronic version of a three year old with no filter. After seeing all the hype, thought we’d give it a try.

Kirstin, Female, 29 – pretty accurate!
howold.net
Jade, Female, 24 – almost there Microsoft!
howold.net
Gary, Male, 31 (Not bad – although we’re surprised they could detect a face in this one!)
howold.net
Gayle, Female, Age: no comment (but nowhere close to 50)
howold.net
Emma, Female, 29 – hah! Still in her 20’s.
howold.net
Stephanie, Female, 22 – ooft, 10 years on! Someone needs some Olay!
howold.net
Lewis, Male, 23 – that’s WAY off (must be the beard and all the wisdom radiating from it)
howold.net
Finlay, Male, 3 – only 2 years on, that’s not ba- A GIRL?! Microsoft, you’re way off!

As you can see, the results are mixed; some are not so bad – for others, it’s safe to say the late nights and excessive amounts of coffee are finally taking their toll.  If anyone could point us to the nearest botox clinic, that would be great!
