When asked to deliver a talk to 90 top college students for Unilever, we just couldn’t stay away!

After first talking through what brand is (you know—your brand “why”, your vision, values, and tone of voice, etc, etc) our Andrew Dobbie jumped right into why brand is so powerful. As our pal Wally Ollins used to say, “a brand is simply an organisation, or a product, or service with a personality”. We like to say that “brand is the thing that humanises your business, so that people can connect with it the way they would a friend”. And when it comes to connection, there’s just no medium better suited than Instagram Stories.

That’s why following Andrew’s snappy chat, our Keenan Erwin dove right into exploring how Instagram Stories can help you to connect with people in an authentic way and on a deeper emotional level. Next we ran through a live demo showing students how to create Instagram Stories using text, stickers, and filters. We even showed them how to use Snapchat as a tool to access geofilters and lenses (you know, the puking rainbow puppy face things) and repurpose them for Instagram Stories.

Not wanting to leave without first giving them a shot, we then had students break into groups to create their very own Instagram Stories. Each team had to plan, create, and deliver an Instagram Story around showcasing the spirit of the Unilever Future Leaders League and highlighting their experiences from the conference. Since we always aim to inspire creativity in everyone, the only limitation was they could only use the apps on their phone to create the story. Oh, and they only had 40 minutes to post it.

In the end, this Instagram Stories workshop went off like a rocket. We were really impressed—these students are a creative force to be reckoned with!
