Apart from chiseled jaws and entrepreneurial spirit, our Andrew and Ryan O’Rorke of Flavourly have one thing in common, the same genes. Adopted at birth, Andrew met Ryan for the first time only a few years ago and they have been inseparable ever since. It almost feels like we should be saying “The End” and settling down with a hot cup of milk and a HobNob by now, but wait – there’s more!
Ryan came to us to develop the Flavourly brand and he has gone from strength to strength, slaying the business moguls on BBC’s Dragons’ Den before turning down their investment offer of £75,000, and going on to launch a funding drive on Crowdcube with the aim of raising between £300,000 and £500,000 (currently sitting at £354,180). Ryan had been down this road before: the month before the filming of Dragons’ Den, Flavourly exceeded its £116,000 funding target on Angels Den in less than 24 hours, making it the fastest-ever equity crowdfunded project in the UK at that time. When Andrew first started MadeBrave® he had £1000 in the bank and a 2 week old baby at home (brave, huh?). Three years on, Andrew has a team of 19 people at MadeBrave® and a number of awards under his belt, including the Best Performing Business 1-10 Employees Award at the Glasgow Business Awards in 2013 and Outstanding Contribution by a Young Business Leader Award at the Inspiring City Awards in 2014. That’s good DNA right there.
This May, Andrew and Ryan will be speaking together at the WeDO Scotland Annual Conference about their success stories and the key to building modern, exciting brands in today’s market. Following their talk, six young members of WeDO Scotland will be pitching their ideas to Non-Execs and advisors for mentorship and possible investment. The conference will be concluded with a talk by Bill Jamieson, Founder of Scott-Buzz and former Executive Editor of the Scotsman.
