Established in 1798, Tobermory is The Isle of Mull’s only whisky distillery and one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland.
Purchased by Distell in 2013, this Artisan Hebridean Distiller now produces Tobermory and Ledaig Single Malts, and, for the first time in its history, Tobermory Gin.
Distell asked us to redesign the Tobermory website and give it a crisp, clean, and aesthetically-pleasing look to tie in with their recent rebrand. They also asked that the redesign be optimised to engage their audience and increase sales of both their heritage whisky expressions and their new gin product as part of the brand’s wider growth strategy.

Before the project kicked off, we carried out in-depth research, using competitor and customer sentiment analysis to inform insights used to create an online experience that reflected the history and enjoyment of the Tobermory brand.
On the Isle of Mull, the local people celebrate creativity, nature and expression—you can see that come to life through the iconic colourful houses of Tobermory. This passion for art in nature isn’t just reflected in the harbour waters, but in the distinctive spirits crafted at Tobemory’s coastal distillery.
To echo this, we designed the website using visuals with an ‘art gallery’ feel, applying a colourful, painterly approach to the content and design of the site, with flourishes of animation throughout.
Using the data and insights we gathered, we developed the new Tobermory website, creating a more user-friendly and engaging experience for users. In order to increase sales, we built the website with specific customer journeys in mind, tying in the rich heritage of their iconic offerings along the way.
